To Appliances with Love
I am an unashamed kitchen appliance junkie! I thought we were making big moves after our Mr. Coffee pot broke, and we upgraded to a coffee maker that matched our coffee addiction:
*This coffee maker by Hamilton Beach* (pictured above) used to be my favorite until *my beloved deep fryer* entered my life as a Christmas gift! Truth be told, I was a little nervous when I first asked for it. My process for having a new appliance comes into my life a little something like: I make a dish, I struggle, or read in the recipe that they use a utensil or appliance I don't have, and I make do with with what I have. I like the way the recipe comes out, but have this lingering suspicion that the flaws in the meal was probably due to whatever the missing appliance was. I make said recipe again, and go through the same struggle. I start googling whatever the missing appliance is and doing my research. I continue to make the same recipe without the appliance until I decide I can no longer do without it, and I finally buy it.
The deep fryer was no different. I've been frying food forever, always saw instructions for how to make stuff in the deep fryer, but kept pushing forward frying things in the pan. But this past Christmas, I got bold, and despite flirting with the idea of becoming a vegetarian, I asked for a deep fryer anyway. I'd like to think I'm a pretty good decision maker, but I really hit this one out of the park! (Isn't it pretty!) Magical auto oil filtration, large fry basket, crazy easy clean up, what more can I girl ask for?!
This past Sunday felt like a seafood kind of day, so seafood it was! Thankfully our lovely meal of shrimp, hush puppies, and fries was pretty straight forward, and didn't require much prep. As always I have to read the labels to make sure there wasn't milk in the batter, and this one was good to go, so I used this one to coat my shrimp.
Next up were the hush puppies. I couldn't find my go to hush puppy batter, so I tried out a new one. I was a little skeptical because i like my hush puppies plain with lots of melted butter to dip them in, but this one came seasoned, and they suggested adding green onions. I am a sucker for green onions, so I gave it a shot, and I was actually pleasantly surprised.
The deep frying process is so quick, and a lot more straightforward than you might think. I also really love how evenly everything is fried, versus the frying pan which varies depending on where the items are frying on the surface of the pan. But here we have a delicious seafood platter, fried to perfection!
