DIY Reading Nook
, There's nothing I love more than reading a good book by:
a) The fireplace
b) A bay window on a rainy day
c) Cuddled up in bed
d) All of the above
D for me all the way! My 8 year old however shares different sentiments. He's long past the excitement of knowing how to read, so to keep things interesting I made him a cozy reading nook to inspire page turning. I'd gotten some inspiration on pinterest, and decided to attempt the circular pillow on the right:
I took to Joann Fabrics to gather up my materials:
1 24 ounce bag of filling
2 1/2 yards of fabric
1 spool of thread
1 bag of buttons
1 20" strand of white lights
Wooden letters
Paint (which I already had)
Sewing machine (already had)
I couldn't find any reasonably priced lights at Joanns, so I headed to WalMart. Not only did I find white lights for $1.67, but I also found a body pillow for $7. The body pillow had 2 1/ 2 times the filling as my 1 $15 bag of filling. So I bought the body pillow instead, cut it open, harvested the filling, and returned my overpriced bag of stuffing. I ditched my circular pillow idea as well as the buttons, and created a quick 4 seam oversized square floor pillow.
Then I took some acrylic paint and did 2 coats over my letters. After it was dry, I hung them up on the wall, as well as the lights and volia!
Now have one happy reader who loves his cute little reading corner. Here is a quick minute and a half video showing all the steps, and shows little brother testing it out :) (Sewing not shown)
Let me know what you think, and if you made one how it turned out!
